Against
Depression, A Sugar Pill Is Hard To Beat
The Washington Post
After thousands of studies, hundreds of millions of prescriptions
and tens of billions of dollars in sales, two things are
certain about pills that
treat depression: Antidepressants like Prozac, Paxil and
Zoloft work. And so do sugar pills.
Now, take this all one (simple!) step further:
Combine both the concurrent placebo effect and the medical
effect from both cognitive psychotherapy and SSRI's respectively,
and the synergy produced by both used currently is significantly
much more powerful than either single approach versus the
other.
